Description

Sangiovese is Italys most widely planted variety and responsible for some of its greatest wines from Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. Wines made from this variety are elegant and forceful with alluring aromas of plums and dried underbrush with fresh cherry and earthy flavours medium tannins and bright acidity.

These Sangiovese grapes were grown on Mount Canobolas in the Orange region The vines are 15 years old and the yields are low less than 2 tonnes per acre. This is achieved by meticulous hand pruning and crop thinning and removing all unripe and damaged grapes before harvest.
Harvest date: 13th March 2016
The fruit was warm fermented in traditional open vats which were hand plunged. The wine was aged in oak barrels for 18 months prior to blending.

This wine is light brick red in colour, with bright purple hues. With aromas of fresh cherry typical of the variety, the palate delivers savoury fruit and a smooth finish.

Perfect with pizza, pasta and antipasto platters.

Light, but bright crimson; juicy, spicy, savoury and herbal flavours are erected on a scaffold of fine-grained tannins. Bona fide varietal character. Bring on the pasta or, better still, wild mushroom risotto.

A fabulous example of a lively red, lighter in weight, and designed for early drinking. Pale red in colour with distinctive varietal sangiovese characters. It is deliciously savoury with roasted meat nuances alongside the bright cherry fruit. Low yields from 25-year-old vines have resulted in lovely mid-palate weight and flavour as well as characteristic drying, slightly chalky tannins.

Enjoy in its youth or after a short time in the cellar. Production is small — 220 dozen — so best get in quick.

From Orange, where winemaker David Hook, who is based in the Hunter Valley, reaches to for an extension for his wine range. I like his assertive Central Ranges branding too.
In the bouquet there’s a fair flourish of splintery oak character, light dusting of savoury spice, some red cherry/amaro whiffs too. Just about in the zone. Wash of red fruits in the palate, a touch lactic/light creamy, shows sweet spice, very faint, fine tannins, touch of graphite-like mineral character, finishing a touch lemony-bitter-tangy. Ok.

An easy drinking red with the feet up on the dash enjoying the ride.

Soft red fruit is etched by savoury dry herbs. A little twiggy too with a kick of earth, there’s a minerally vibe leading to a dry finish flanked by lemon like acidity. You’d expect a crunch to finish with Sangiovese and this is partially the way there.

Any way you look at it, it’s a classic food wine – a wine you’d happily drop in the middle of the table sharing large plates of plentiful food.

Drink now to three years.

Medium to full red colour with a purple tint. Toasty, smoky and red cherry aromas tinged with oak – very savoury, with dried herbs galore. The palate is also savoury with drying, soft tannins to close and appealing fruit-sweetness in the mid and back-palates. There’s a light kick of alcohol and the wine has length and charm.
