This wine is produced from grapes grown at the Pothana Vineyard on sandy loam with limestone sub soils. The vines are over 30 years old and low yielding, producing less than 2 tonnes per acre annually. The grapes were hand picked and whole bunch pressed. The resulting juice was settled for 24 hours. The wine was fermented and matured in 30% new French oak barrels with the balance being in 2 and 3 year old French barrels. It was stored on lees for 6 months prior to bottling.
Harvest Date: 8th February 2017
The wine is pale gold in colour with youthful green tinges. The aroma is intense with a complex bouquet of citrus and peach fruit characters. Barrel fermentation adding charred oak and cashew nut to the nose and palate. The flavours of stone fruit and lemon zest are sustained with fresh acid and toasty oak in a rich well structured wine.
Pair with roast chicken and sage or pork belly.

The vines are now over 30 years old (29 in 2013) and crop at very low yields.
It builds nicely in the glass. It smells sweet and spicy but it’s both taut and refreshing in the mouth, with no lack of either fruit or oak flavour. It has a bit of cut and run but it doesn’t leave mouth feel or flavour behind. Hard not to enjoy it.
Bright, medium buttercup yellow colour and a rich, ripe, buttery, vanillan aroma, with a trace of roast chicken and rubbery development. The wine is rich and full in the mouth, but shot through with tangy crisp acidity which keeps it lively and upright. The wine successfully combines richness and development with freshness and nerve. Excellent chardonnay. A benchmark.
Light straw-green; the expressive bouquet of stone fruits, melon and obvious, but not aggressive, barrel ferment characters leads into a gentle, well-mannered palate; it is perfectly balanced, the only issue the lack of fruit concentration.
